Tech Return to Office Exercises
During the 2020 lockdown, I led charrette work with WRNS to develop strategies for a safe return to the workplace for a confidential tech client. The examples shown are a selection of my contributions, including the final templated model used to apply RTO metrics to the client’s campuses across the country.
The first charrette asked us to propose several creative options for a typical neighborhood, ranging from low-cost, simple interventions to higher-cost, complex interventions, with the goal of de-densification of desking and introduction of screening elements.
The second charrette focused on methods to transition from dense desk layouts to more balanced workplaces, aiming to improve comfort, flexibility, and collaboration in post-pandemic offices. The studies assessed existing layouts, refined desk spacing, and repurposed 10–20% of workstations into collaboration areas. Case studies showed an average 28% desk reduction, improved circulation, and stronger desk-to-meeting-room ratios.
Our charrette was selected as the model for rollout across the client’s portfolio. The package includes step-by-step guides, case studies with full metrics, and linked template slides and spreadsheets—enabling efficient execution and easy updates.
